Kyle Wood, a resident of Terrell, Texas, became interested in arttaroun the age of twelve years old. Initially he doodled with paint-by-number series, but quickly realized that he had talent and could paint his own scenes. His Great Aunt, Mildred Stapleton, is largely responsible for introducing him to oil painting and encouraged him to take art lessons. Between 1984 and 1997, Kyle studiesd under Calonnie Gragg a Nichol's Art & Frame Gallery in Mequite, Texas and later at Barton on Boydstun Gqllery in Rockwall, Texas. Under her guidance, she taught him the basics of color mixing, value, hue, scale, and composition. In addition, he as taken several studio art and architectual classes at Eastfield College and The University of Texas at Arlington, where he holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art. More recently, Kyle has taken several oil painting workshops with June Lee, learning to refine his skill and using the palette knife as a tool to express texture and mood.
As an artist, Kyle enjoys drawing and painting a wide variety of subject matter; however, his specialty is Texas Landscapes depicting old building and feilds of bluebonnets. He credits much of his painting ability has come from years of observation, practice and going to art galleries to observe what other Texas Artists have done. For Kyle, the elements (line, color, value, texture) and principles (emhasis, proportion, and composition) play a big role in the process of creating a painting. His ideas primarily com from photographs he has taken on vacations and outings. In the process of painting, Kyle strives to capture light by using color to create a mood.
In addition to painting in his studio, Kyle is also an active member of Texas Area Artists and Rockwall Artist League. Over the past few years, he has won several awards in painting and photography at the State Fair of Texas and Texas Area Artist Annual Award Shows. Kyle's original oil paintings hang in the follwing Texas Galleries: The Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas; Old Town Art Gallery in Rockwall; and Salado Galleries in Historic Salado.
